Each colonist in Dissent on Mars has a unique personality that determines how they behave. Today, I'd like to talk about some of the traits colonists can have and how they impact the game!

Bootlicker
In the last article, we talked about the different ways decisions can be made in a workplace. Depending on their personality traits, some colonists may prefer having input, while others may like being told what to do. Can you guess what bootlickers love to do? If it's not obvious, bootlickers love being told what to do and hate making their own decisions. They'll gravitate towards jobs where they can be bossed around, and they'll lick those boots with a huge smile on their face.

Rebel
Rebels are the opposite of bootlickers: they hate being told what to do! Rebels avoid jobs where they have no input, and they may stir up some trouble in the colony. For example, rebels may want you to sabotage a business owned by a wealthy colonist, or they may even start a rebellion and refuse to work!

Hard Worker
When colonists apply for jobs, they'll need to decide how long they want to work. Several things influence this decision, but a major one is their work ethic. Hard workers have a high work ethic, and they tend to work for as long as they possibly can. Colonists can also be lazy, but I'm sure no one will be like that in your colony, right?

Greedy
Greedy colonists buy more products than needed and charge higher prices for products. One time I was testing the game and took my colonist to the store. I was in the mood for some pepperoni pizza, but my mood quickly changed after realizing it would cost 88 credits, which is pretty high for Martian pizza! I looked into it, and sure enough, a greedy colonist was gouging prices at the pizzeria. Luckily, he went out of business after I built my own pizzeria and undercut his prices! Virtual pepperoni pizza never tasted so good.

Gameaholic
Traits can determine what types of products fulfill a colonist's needs. As you might expect, the only thing that fulfills a gameaholic's fun need is video games! Films, books, and albums just don't cut it for these people. Some traits also determine how many products a colonist needs to consume. For example, introverts don't need to socialize as much as extroverts, so they don't need to consume as many social products.

Conclusion
Hopefully, this gives you an idea of how the colonist's traits can impact the game. Now, here's the real question: what types of colonists will live in your society?
