I'm excited to announce that the soundtracks I made for Dissent on Mars are now available! There's the Dissent on Mars: Daytime Soundtrack and the Dissent on Mars: Nighttime Soundtrack. You can buy them on Steam (here (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2141450/Dissent_on_Mars_Daytime_Soundtrack/) and here (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2141480/Dissent_on_Mars_Nighttime_Soundtrack/)), or Bandcamp (here (https://michaelarts.bandcamp.com/album/dissent-on-mars-daytime-soundtrack) and here (https://michaelarts.bandcamp.com/album/dissent-on-mars-nighttime-soundtrack)). If you'd like to wait for a small discount, they'll be included in a Deluxe Edition of the game that will launch on Monday.
If you like spacey ambient music, I think these will be right up your alley! The first song on both albums was written in my college apartment back in 2011. I wanted to make a soundtrack that mixed other-worldly synthesizers with natural-sounding instruments. I wrote that song and several others for a game I ended up abandoning.
Fast forward 11 years, and I felt my vision for the old soundtrack fit perfectly with Dissent on Mars. I used the first song as a starting point and made the remaining 11 songs over a few months in 2022. Most of the songs took 3 days to make. The first day was for improvising a synthesizer part, the second was for improvising a melody, and the third was for a quick mix and mastering job. Sometimes it took a little longer. The whole thing felt like a jazz session; I would play some random notes and see where it took me.
This is the simplest batch of songs I've ever made; there are never more than two instruments on a track. My last few soundtracks are very dense, so it felt good to do something more stripped back. I hope you enjoy them!
Thanks for listening,
Michael
